Delafield Legion Commander’s Corner

April 2008

I am going to just bring you up to date on a few issues that come before you American Legion each meeting. The last meeting we had a dismal turnout, partially because of the funeral of our Legionnaires spouse, Marilyn Marie Waltke. She will be missed as will other recent loses to our family in Delafield. Beverly E. "Bev" Ruprecht, Carl “Kelly” Krueger, and Al Nuernberger – all have joined the Post Ever Lasting this year. May we, in this country of United States of America, who have so very much to be thankful for… be willing to thank those who have put their lives on the line to build a world where peace and justice reigns and good will and plenty is available to all of God’s children, all around the world. And you better believe me that I include the wives as persons who give up so much for you and me. God Bless them all. At our meetings we remember them.

We also remember our POW/MIA’s. I try not to pass by this ritual so fast that it looses meaning. Each meeting is designated to be held in honor of one of our Wisconsin POW/MIA people; this last meeting was in honor of William Arnold US Navy, born 6/25/40 from West Allis, Wisconsin. He has been missing since 11/18/1966 in North Vietnam. Please help us not to forget.

One of my favorite parts of a meeting is what I call MY TURN. I explore some example of patriotism or leadership example in our community. Even our roll call gives an opportunity for you, the Legionnaire, to have a say in our meeting – you speak up what is on your mind, and sometimes whom you remember.

We do have reports and advice and information from our standing committees. First our fine Adjutant, Craig Hoaglund, brings us up to speed on what has happened. Then Finance from Len Green, membership from Scott Krueger, Traveling Vietnam Wall from Cindy Krueger, what is happening and what is the state of our bar from Kelly Bukowsky, and reports from our Family, SAL - Chris Knapp and Auxiliary - Jean Dodd. That only leaves our Post Service Officer’s Report from Harry Peterson and the Chaplin’s report by Harv Schuster (sure hope you are not in his report, but if you are, you are also in our prayers).

Well, if you haven’t attended in a while, that is what you miss. If you want to have a part in our Community you have to be there. Need a ride? Call. Have a question? Call. Have a complaint? Call. Have a Compliment? Call (we need those too). It takes a lot of effort to put together a successful post, and frankly we would like more help doing your job. See you at the Legion Hall, maybe even at a meeting.

God Bless Each One of You,

Respectfully submitted,

Neil E. Rand
